Why I Love IKEA.... {Top 5 Reasons}

July 21, 2014

I can't recall how I discovered Ikea, but I'm pretty sure it had something to do with Pinterest.... All I really know is that I love Ikea from the bottom of my heart and today I'm going to share the top five reasons why I love IKEA!!

First and foremost. If you have ever been to Ikea or own Ikea products then I know you will totally relate to the first reason why I love it so much....Yes, you guessed it! It's affordable!! I mean where else can you go to find so many items under $100!! Seriously!!?? I'm pretty sure every room in my home has something that was purchased from Ikea and was less than $100.
Lets take a look shall we??

See those cute cloth towels hanging on my kitchen island?
Yup, picked those up at Ikea for a whooping forty-nine cents each!!

The chalkboard, cabinet and baskets all came from Ikea and
each one was under $100.

The dresser in our daughters room was $99.
I added the adorable butterfly nobs and did a little
DIY lettering on the front with gold paint pen.

The Ribba picture ledges and the Lack side table together under $100!

And in our living room the Byholma basket in gray was only $59.99!!
Perfect for toy storage!!

The second reason I love Ikea it for it's product versatility. There are so many items that take on different roles in different rooms. Take the Kallax shelving unit (formally Expedit) for example. I use ours in the dining room, but before that is was used in my office for craft storage. The Pax system is also very versatile. Check out how Jenna, from Jenna Sue Designs used the Pax system in her master bedroom and in her kitchen!! This goes right along with my third reason for loving Ikea!! Hackable!!! Yes, I invented a new word!! Ikea has so many items that you can create and DIY into anything you like in hundreds of different ways!! Check out my Ikea Crush board on Pinterest for incredible Ikea hacks!!
The fourth reason I love Ikea is product durability!! All of the items we have from Ikea have lasted us a good three years and we haven't had to replace or fix anything!! It's amazing how so many items from Ikea are so inexpensive, yet durable enough to last so long!!
The fifth and final reason I love Ikea is because of all the adorable children's items!! From stuffed toys to train sets, markers, crayons, mini furniture that kids actually fit in, chairs, stools, rugs, you name it, Ikea has it and for kids!! I could pretty much go on and on about Ikea and all it's loveliness... I will end here with one other reason why I totally love Ikea and completely forgot about while writing this post....
The perfect excuse to go shopping at Ikea...
$1 fat free ice cream!!  Nuff said!!
Hope your having a Happy Monday!!

Wednesday Wish List {PAX Wardrobes}

May 21, 2014

Hi friends!

I'm back today with another wish list. As each week passes my wish

lists seem to becoming more like "home to do" lists and I suppose that

in all reality, in some way shape or form, well,.... they are just that!!

I come up with so many ideas in my head for our home and the spaces

within, that it sometimes they just take over my mind and due to the lack of

time and money well.... they become items that get put on this long

"wish list" of things that eventually I am hoping to accomplish.

I never seem to finish one project before I'm starting another!

I've mentioned in some earlier posts that I am in the process of redoing our

master bedroom.... Yup, still in the process. So far I have purchased my

new nightstands, wall décor, bedding, throw pillows and a rug...

I picked out several (probably more) paint colors, painted the walls,

twice and each time hated the color!!

So I painted the room back to the original color and now I'm

in the process of getting ready to paint yet another color. Like it or not, this

next paint color is staying!! I think I'm all painted out!!

So now that I have most of the important items taken care of I started to

think about tacking the very large wall our dresser is on.... Now this large

wall is of course empty at the present moment and I've been avoiding

putting anything on the walls. One, because I knew I wasn't done painting

and two, because I really would like to utilize all that empty wall space.

Here is a picture of what this side of our bedroom looks like today.

Yes I know....blah, blah, blah....

This bedding is not the new bedding and I really I'm not loving the

placement of the furniture... And really not much I can do with

moving it around since the room is very small with only four walls and

two that have small windows... and the other wall is our closet. Uhmmm

did I mention our small closet??

Our closet space is so very limited that we purchased another small

dresser just for my husbands t-shirts... And yet clothes seem to just pile

up on it... I'm so tired of trying to find space to put clothes in this house!!

I thought of getting rid of both dressers and using two large armoires,

one for each of us.... But then I found this....

I'm pretty sure I've fallen in love....

Sorry hunny, but this is amazing and I must have it in my life!!

This is the perfect solution for that large empty wall in our bedroom!!

Not sure what I would do with the TV ceiling maybe, I could probably

do without it if I could enjoy this view everyday, all day!!

I also came across these as well....

So smitten I can't even contain myself!!

This is an amazing idea and the perfect solution for that large wall

in our bedroom!!  What do you think? Would you keep the traditional

dressers or install these gorgeous built in's using Ikea Pax systems??

I'd love your thoughts!!

Until then enjoy the rest of your week!!

IKEA STOOL ~ {DIY}

May 1, 2013

Happy Wednesday all!
I have a quick post about a DIY project I attempted over this past weekend and it actually came out pretty good! I didn't take many pictures because honestly it was way too easy!
I picked up one of those small unfinished stools at IKEA for my kitchen a few weeks ago and the other day I came along this post on Pinterest (I mean really where else?!!) and I thought what an adorable idea, so I took a go at it and I am really very happy with how it turned out! I used some extra paint I had on hand from when we re-painted the bathroom (much more on that later!). I was going to spray paint the stool at first, but I was in a rush of course and I just decided to paint it. The base white color is white dove by Benjamin Moore and the for the words I used my favorite color right now, Moonshine by Benjamin Moore. It's a great, gray/green color that isn't to harsh. More honesty here, I didn't even bother sanding or priming the stool. It was very smooth when we purchased it and I just did two coats of the white dove....I did wipe it down first because after sitting in my office for two weeks it did collect some dust!
The next step was pretty simple too. I pick two fonts I loved and used carbon paper to trace it on the stool. There was some carbon marks left around the letters, but I just painted over it with the white paint. Then I filled in the letters......Pretty simple. Took me all of 45min. I was very careful when filling in the letters and I used three different sized brushes.
The final step was just to spray paint over the words with clear coat. You will want to make sure you don't skip that step if you plan on actually putting the stool to use!
And here it is!

.... Have I told you I LOVE IKEA.... & Pinterest???
