Office Update and Paint Colors....

January 22, 2013

When the new year started one of my resolutions was to "clear the clutter". As I began my journey, I realized that the reason I have all this clutter is because I don't have a proper space for important papers, bills, kids art work, mail, magazine, exct. Everything just ends up in piles in my kitchen. The same goes for all our daily items such as hats, coats, shoes, school, bags and anything else that ends up in my house. So, I began thinking that it is finally time to upgrade ALL the rooms in our home and the first place to start is our home office. I created a inspiration board for my office which you can find on my MOM CAVE board on Pinterest. The style I've been looking for has changed a hundred times (literally). One thing that I was dead set on was a "mud room" area for coats, hats, shoes and school bags. I had wanted to order a entry system from Pottery Barn, but just my luck it is discontinued and all the new stuff they have just wouldn't work in the space. So that leads me to this.
We originally removed the closet in this room to make our daughters nursery larger.... So now it is our little mudroom space. We had a carpenter make this from scratch and I had  the pleasure of painting it. Now all i need to do is order the desk and pick a paint color. Not an easy task as you can see.
Like I said it is a very small room and as much as I would love to go bold with the dark color (Marine Magic ~ Behr) I think my go to color is the one on the end (Wheatbread ~ Behr). I will be back soon with more pics after I decide on a color.......

Project Home 2013.....

January 9, 2013

Hi all.... I've been pretty busy trying my best to "un-clutter", but it's a much harder job than I had expected. It's kind of hard to get organized and put things in their place when, well, there's no place to put them! We moved into our home almost 5 years ago and there was no Pinterest back then so I really had not a clue what I was doing. I had kind of an idea of my home decor "style", but really didn't pay much attention detail to all the important aspects of decor. I was more focused on getting the walls up, the kitchen done and planning our wedding and then we came back from our honeymoon and I was pregnant.... So home decor was not priority #1!
Getting back to my "decor style". All I knew when we purchased our old home that it needed updating, and that I adored Pottery Barn and Ballard Designs and just started ordering the all the items I wanted rather than taking the time to figure out my style and order items that would actually work within my space. At that time I loved primitive country style. When I was growing up I loved my mom's best friend Nancy's house. It was all cozy, country and always smelt like a bakery.  It was a place that felt like home and growing up I always said to myself that when I grow up my home would be just like that....Not that my own home wasn't cozy it just wasn't country. My mom was more of a contemporary gal. Very creative, artistic and an excellent cook. Thank god I inherited all those fantastic traits from her, but I just loved the felling of how a country home felt.... I also grew up riding horses on my aunt & uncle's farm so that contributed to my love of the country as well....
All that being said I had no idea where to begin and just threw lots of neutral (looking at it now) ugly paint colors and made tons of impulse purchases and now I have this cute little home with bits and pieces of what I like...
Well now thanks to Pinterest, HGTV, 4 tag sales and searching many, many, many blogs I discovered exactly what I want my home to be and my true decor style. Before I get into that I want to share some before photos. We are in the process of doing a lot of home projects and updates. The first room on my list is my "Mom Cave". Well, it's more of an office/mudd room/sitting room.... You can see some of my ideas for this space here. But until then here is Project Home 2013 Room # 1 Before....

Here it is when it was Gracie's nursey

JJ's Nursery Update....

January 7, 2013

I did some small DIY projects in JJ's nursery....
The framed letter "J" is a wood letter I picked up at Micheal's and painted red. The cute blue frame I picked up at Home Goods on the sale rack for $7.99!! A STEAL! I had other intentions for it, but when I saw how it matched perfectly with the wall color and bedding I knew exactly what I was going to use it for. The chevron piece with the smaller letter "J" (also from Micheal's, painted yellow) is just an 8x10 canvas. My chevron pattern is a bit off, but I did it free hand so not too shabby if you ask me! The other 8x10 canvas I painted blue and painted JJ's hand prints on it. Getting him to Not put his hands in his mouth with the paint was probably the most challenging part, but the most fun part of the whole project.... I found the inspiration here.
You can find tons of other cute "little man" ideas on my Pintrest board here.
I will have complete room update and sources up soon!!

January Challange.....

January 1, 2013

New year means starting a new....
This year each month I will post a challenge to better myself and see how far I get. Each week I will post a new step to work on. Rome wasn't built in a day so all this will take some time... One area that I really need to improve on is getting organized. So for the month of January I will being to organize my life, not just in my home, but in all aspects of health and wellness. In order to take better care of myself and my family ALL things must be in place...   I created a board this Pintrest to help me figure things out.

STEP 1 ~ De-clutter: This week I will work on getting rid of all the paper, magazines and "junk" lying around the house to make space for all the important items that don't have a place.
Wish me luck!!
